Beekeeping

We have a large selection of beekeeping supplies!

Bees don’t like to be too hot or too cold. Make sure to place your entrance so that it will receive plenty of sunlight. Place your hives in a sheltered area. Try to avoid windy hilltops or low spots that could flood or get too cold in the late night/early morning.
Bees need access to water, nectar, and pollen. If they do not have an adequate food source, you will need to make sure you feed them regularly. Honey is made from nectar that can be found in clover, dandelions, fruit trees, and more. Many beekeepers plant yellow clover which we stock in our store to attract bees.
There are many supplies and tools needed for beekeeping. We have a very large selection, and if there is something that we don't normally stock, we can order it for you on our next shipment. It is very important to have protective gear. There are also many options available for hive kits. We sell many different kits, but we also have items that are sold separately if you need to add to an existing hive.
Finally, there is a FREE resource that you can access at the Shawnee North Community Center on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm. It is a beekeeping class led by local beekeepers Steve & Becky Tipton. They have gobs of experience and useful information to share about what you need to know about bees. The next class is May 18.
