  • February 15, 10:00AM - 8:00PM
  • February 16, 11:00AM - 5:00PM
A few common questions on Spring fertilizer applications:

Q: When is the best time to put down Crabgrass Preventer?

A: It is best to apply Crabgrass preventer before the Crabgrass germinates, which would be late February through early April.

Q: How soon after spreading Crabgrass Preventer can grass seed be applied?

A: We recommend waiting four months between spreading Crabgrass Preventer and planting grass seed. The chemicals used to prevent the Crabgrass from germinating will also prevent the grass seed from germinating.

Q: What is the best type of fertilizer to use in the spring?

A: Applying a high nitrogen fertilizer like our 32-3-8 will get your grass green and growing in no time. 12-12-12 and 8-32-16 are also great fertilizers to use if you are planting new grass and want to get established root growth.

  1. Why do you keep telling people to apply “a high nitrogen fertilizer”? Turf grass fertilizer recommendations are made in pounds of fertilizer to be applied per 1000 square feet. Not the percent of fertilizer in a bag. For example if a person wanted to apply 1 pound of Nitrogen per 1000 square feet out of a bag with 32-03-08 they would use 3.1 pounds out of the bag fertilizer. Or 8.3 pound of fertilizer from a bag of 12-12-12.
